School Sports Coaches - Hockey Head Coach
Casual / Part-time / 2025 season / February start

What is the Role?

As part of an energetic and enthusiastic team, work with the Sport & PDHPE departments to help to deliver our Secondary School Sports Program for the 2025 Hockey season. Hockey Head Coach needs to be available for midweek training and competition games on Saturdays. Training after School (3:30pm - 5:30pm) is primarily held at Sydney Olympic Park and on campus. Moorebank Hockey Centre is our home venue for Saturday competition, with locations varying from week to week. The 2025 Hockey season will commence with training and selections in March and competition commencing in May through to the beginning of September 2025.

 

Coaching the First XI hockey team can be integrated into the responsibilities of the Head Coach role.

 

The key responsibilities are defined in the following areas:

  • In liaison with the Convenor Hockey and the Athlete Development Coach, to assist in the development of a training program to enhance the physical presence of SACS Hockey players throughout Junior, Middle and Senior School 2
  • The development of a playing philosophy resulting in clear expectations of coaches.
  • Upholding ISA Code of Conduct and SACS ethos and Culture
  • Assistance to the Convenor with management and attendance at hockey games and training.

Expectations

  • Attendance at Sydney Olympic Park on training days.
  • Ensuring that coaches are prepared for their training sessions, enabling students to engage in quality skills-based training immediately on arrival.
  • Running skills sessions for identified weaker coaches, providing feedback and constructive critique.
  • Attendance to at least two games per weekend
  • Written analysis, directed to the Sport Department with advice on the following but not limited to: 
    • Evaluation of performance and Strategies for team improvement
    • Advice for individual coaches about specific training focus areas 
    • Advice to and from the individual coaches and the Athlete Development Coach for the improvement of individual student physicality where necessary.

 

 

 

Who will the successful applicants be?

  • You will be working at either the St Andrew’s House Campus (Sydney Town Hall), or Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre (other venues may be used as needed)
  • Bring specialist knowledge and experience as well as a passion and enthusiasm to coach and mentor in a school sport environment.
  • Ideally hold a minimum Club Coach accreditation in Hockey and/or relevant experience in youth Hockey.
  • Be a role model for our students
  • Have a current Working with Children Check and Level 1 First Aid
  • Model the St Andrew’s Cathedral School values and behaviours and uphold the Independent Sporting Association Code of Conduct.

Prior experience in a school setting is an advantage but not essential.
